Beer Steins and Glasses

The History Of American Home Brewing

At first, home beer brewing was illegal in America, before the laws changed and made America one of the top producing beer countries on the 90’s… and now we see the decline once again with the tough economic times forcing many companies out of business and into bankruptcy. This has of course led to more and more people drinking to drown their sorrows, so to speak, but many more are actually turning this lust for beer into a productive past time by starting their own home brewery… and what a way to go!

As was mentioned, American home brewing has been very flexible through time. Back in the old America, home brewing was already a part of colonial lives. Even famous personalities such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were home brew aficionados.

However, there was a time of prohibition that was devastating to the American population. Prohibition meant that it was illegal to brew your own beer, and heavy fines where placed on people who broke this law… and what a shame that was… some people even went to prison for having a home brewery! Can you imagine a life without beer? Everybody had to content with a watered down lifeless beer – well not really beer but something which was a very poor substitute for it. Nothing substantially alcoholic was allowed and few took efforts in making their drinks less alcoholic but tasty. Unfortunately the American people had to suffice and deal with prohibition. This then led to shop owners renaming all equipment so it couldn’t be associated with running home brewery and started selling it on the sly to hardcore supporters of brewing beer at home. This was quiet easy because the equipment is fairly standard, including buckets, hosing, pots, pans, and other tidbits. The situation varied from state to state. In some states, only those selling home brews were caught while in some, brewing for personal consumption also meant facing legal charges. Good thing those laws have been since relaxed and prohibition has truly been and gone!

In 1935, the law was improvised a bit. Home wine making was allowed without taxes but to brew beer, the interested party must first secure permits and comply with regulations. But despite the heavy regulations, some beer advocates pooled their efforts to promote home brewing. One of the greats in the field, Charlie Papazian first entered the scenario during this time and taught home brewing classes. However, government maintained that unregulated home brewing was still unlawful as any type of brewing could still be employed by moonshiners.

But thankfully, in 1978, Jimmy Carter rescued the doomed souls of beer loving Americans and signed Senate Amendment 3534 allowing households to brew their own beer as long as they don’t go beyond 200 gallons a year. After the lifting of the prohibition on alcoholic beverages, it was home brew beer enthusiasts who worked hard to revive the brewing industry. Today, there are over 1,463 breweries in the United States, a much improved American home brewing state.

American Home Brewing is happening and booming today, so naturally it’s time to sit down, relax, and enjoy a home brew. For those still not up to scratch with home brewing beer, follow the link to discover more!

Quit Drinking – No Need For AA

A lot of people have a hard time dealing with alcohol addiction. This article is not from AA, but it has good advice, so you should sit down and read all of this to find out how you can effectively quit without using AA!

Did you ask God to help you get your life straight? Do you think being in a group such as AA will help you quit? Do you think AA will help you quit alcoholism?

First of all, you need to trust yourself and believe that you can do it. You don’t have to believe in God or religion although that might help. You just need a lot of self esteem. You can do it! Have you heard of Anthony Robbin’s Awaken the Giant Within? You have the power. You just need to put your mind to accomplishing this task.

Tons of people have warned you about alcohol Your body reacts to it as a poison as well (ever vomited?). It strains the liver and kidneys flushing the stuff out. There’s no beneficial content in the alcoholic drinks. You don’t need it. Toss that flask in the trash bin right now and dump your vodka down the drain, that’s all you need! If you really need the alcohol, it might be too hard for you to quit straight up like that and you should see a doctor first.

Always keep in mind your end game. Never lost sight of your goals and hopes and dreams. You want to lose some pounds or just get back your bodily hygiene and stop having your bad breath. All you must do is lose that booze.

So, that is the fact. Not too hard, eh? Really, in the end, that’s all there is to it. Just do it. In the end when you succeed, you’ll only have yourself to thank for and you’ll be really glad you took this challenge on.

The History of Wine Goblets and Pewter Goblets

If you couldn’t identify wine goblets when asked what they are, you’re probably not alone. The word goblet isn’t really a part of our everyday vocabulary, yet in all likelihood you probably know what a goblet is, even if you don’t think so. Pewter goblets aren’t as popular as they were centuries ago, but they’re still all over the place.

The wine goblet, though essentially the same thing as a glass, does have a different shape. You’ll find a wider composition that almost resembles a bowl, and the thin handle of wine glasses is much thicker when it comes to the goblet.

Wine goblets were first introduced to the world in about 400 AD. The original ones were made of materials like clay and ceramics, as local potters produced them. While they were in fact used for red wine, they were also used for other occasions at many ceremonies and rituals.

In present times, the wine goblets are still used quite frequently. They’re used both inside homes, as well as in restaurants for various uses. You might also see them used at various occasions like weddings, for one. When someone gives a toast, they’ll often use a metal or pewter goblets to deliver the toast with.

Back when wine goblets first came about, they were nowhere nearly as common as they are in present times. They were very popular amongst the upper class of society and really weren’t available for widespread use.

They were also seen as a mark of class, and the best ones were used at high profile events (in a way, they still are when you think about weddings). Materials such as pewter and silver were most popular in the past, but crystal and glass are the most popular form of wine goblet today.

Amazingly, wine goblets remain very prominent today. Whether it’s a tradition driven phenomenon or a result of society’s liking for the shape and utility of it, you can find old style pewter goblets just about wherever you go.

Packaging Your Homemade Wine

Making homemade wine can a great hobby and a lot of fun to boot. There is nothing like the feeling of opening your own wine and knowing that what you created surpasses many of the high priced winery wines. However, while making wine may be fun, there is a bit of a learning curve.

There are some important things you need to have a real comprehension of before you begin making homemade wine. Learning the basics from websites, experts and books is a great way to begin your wine making. You can find the equipment needed at many places like online retailers and at specialty shops that cater to brewers.

Utilizing a wine kit is most likely the best way to begin making wine at home. These kits make it easier for beginners to succeed.

While it might be a good idea to use quality equipment for wine making it is more important to use top notch ingredients. The higher the quality of ingredients the better your wine will taste, but fear not, if you are on a budget you can still make wine from juice concentrate!

Different wine varietals will take a different time to process, but usually the time span is anywhere between eight and ten weeks. It is essential that you do not spoil your wine by drinking it too early, wine tastes better the longer it ages.

To find tasty recipes for homemade wine you can look in all places like websites and books and find recipes for wine from cherry wine to pinot grigio. A great idea for your wine is to give it as gifts and tailor the taste for that person. For a wine lover, nothing is better as a gift than some personalized wine.

Your packaging for your homemade wine can be just as important as the taste. The bottle shape and color, the kind of cork you use, and what you put on your wine label all give it that special something. The wine label, in fact, is the most important way to personalize your wine.

The wine label will give one the overall impression of the wine. Wine labels are used for logos, the name of the wine and putting personal messages on the bottle that is used as a gift. Sounds like so much fun!

The Shape Of Wine Glasses

Wine glasses are very essential in the wine tasting experience. In order to properly taste the wine, you must have the correct wine glass. Wine glasses were designed the way they are shaped on purpose.

The red wine glass incorporates a base, stem and large bowl and mouth to bring about the perfect glass for drinking red wine. The large round bowl helps to establish the unique bouquet belonging to each individual wine. The mouth is large to allow a person to sip their wine because red wine is made to be sipped.

Red wine glasses use the surface area of the large bowl to oxygenate and evaporate the wine allowing for a much bolder aroma. Red wine is known for its strong and bold taste. The large bowl is also used to grasp the glass by which helps keep red wine at the desired temperature, room temperature.

White wine glasses have the same structure as red wine glasses consisting of a base, stem and bowl. The major difference between the two is that the white wine glass bowl is much narrower and taller which helps to keep the delicate bouquet held together. Also, the white wine glass has a taller stem than the red wine glass which provides a place to hold the glass so as not to warm the wine because white wine should be served chilled.

The white wine glass has a smaller mouth than a red wine glass which makes you tilt your head back in order to drink it. White wine is meant to be tasted towards the back of your palette. The part of the palette where you taste the wine is important to the wine tasting experience.

Champagne, yet another type of wine, also boasts its very own glass design. The perfect champagne glass is called a flute. Flute glasses are very tall and narrow which maintains the effervescence and bubbles for much longer than any other shape of glass.

It has become apparent by now that wine glasses serve more than just the purpose of having a container to hold your wine in but to also help create the perfect flavor. Every type of wine has its own glass that it should be used with to enjoy the smells and tastes to the utmost. Pairing wine with food is also another experience that should not be missed!

White wine goes beautifully with all types of seafood. Red wine can be paired wonderfully with red meat and even chocolate! Experiment with wine to find your perfect combination, but just remember to use the right wine glasses!

Painted wine glasses are essential to your wine tasting experience. Wine Glasses Co. provides instructions and information regarding all things wine related, including helping you find the best wine glass!

So You Want To Become A Bartender

A bartender is somebody who serves beverages behind a licensed bar to paying customers. A bartender can also be called a barkeep or a barmaid. Bartenders are found in bars, pubs, taverns, nightclubs and other similar places.

Bartenders are professionals at serving drinks that contain alcohol in them, some examples are cocktails, shots, wine, beer, liqueur and coolers. But not only do they serve these drinks, they also serve a good amount of non alcoholic drinks such as soda, water and juices for those who choose not to drink, such as a designated driver.

Not only do bartenders have the responsibility of making and serving drinks, they are also responsible for the over cleanliness of the bar area. They must make sure they have enough clean shot glasses, wine glasses, mugs, and drink glasses at their disposal, so there is a light amount of dish washing that is involved.

Almost anywhere you go the bartender will be expected to dress appropriate, this makes the whole atmosphere of the bar better. There are even some places where the bartender will be expected to be the main entertainment of the bar.

A professional bartender should have in their head hundreds of recipes for drinks and shots. The quicker that you can serve the customer the more likely you are to get a good tip. It is not very professional to go over and look at a recipe book while the customer is waiting on his or her drink, especially if you are working at a busy night club.

All bartenders should be friendly and enjoy having contact and communication with customers. Good bartenders have a way of attracting regular customers. Good bartenders like this will remember the favored drink of regular customers; have drink recommendations on hand or recommendations for other bars, as well as several other unofficial duties.

In the United States, mostly all bartenders are payed minimum wage. So their main source of income will be coming from tips, which is a custom in almost every country. Bartenders must also be strict when it comes to checking if that person is old enough to drink alcohol or not.

If this sounds like a lot of work, with not much reward, there is always a bright side. You are working at an establishment that serves gallons of liquor each day, and you are in charge of it. The job of bartender is management, customer service, and so much more! Even a bar tending job looks good on a resume when you present it in the right way.

Before you try and get into the challenging world of mixing drinks you need to know the ropes, for that reason the author has wrote an excellent report that covers bartending tips for newbies and how to become a bartender.

What To Drink In Australia

Although Australian have been known to be large beer drinkers, we are also lovers of fine wine. There are approximately 10,000 different varieties of Australian wines, as well as alcoholic lemonade made from Australian lemon crops, and a beverage made from rhubarb. You can also purchase imported wines, beers or spirits, however when you are there it is highly recommended that you purchase an Australian brand. There are also many non alcoholic drinks for those that prefer to take the healthy route or are nominated as the designated driver.

White Wine: Australians first adapted table wine in the 1960’s and 1970’s. At first they prefer a sweet type of wine and later became found of the drier styles such as Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. A passion also began to evolve for wood matured wines, and today varieties such as Marsanne have become very popular.

Red Wine: Australia’s benchmark red is Grange Hermitage, the creation of the late vintner Max Schubert in the 1950s.He preferred wines that required at least a decades cellaring. In contrast, Wolf Blass, a winemaker o the current style, championed the drink now approach with quickly maturing wines. Winemakers frequently blend wines from different districts and states. Lighter reds which may be served chilled have recently been introduced.

Beer: Most Australian beer is vat fermented real ale or lager, both consumed chilled. Full strength beer has an alcohol content of around 4.8 per centime strength beers have around 3.5 per cent, while light beers have less than 3 per cent. Traditionally heat sterilized, cold filtration is now becoming increasingly popular. Among the hundreds of fine lagers and stouts are James Boag and Cascade from Tasmania,Castlemain XXXX from Queensland ,Fosters and Victoria Bitter (VB) from Victoria ,Tooheys red and blue labels from New South Wales and Coopers Sparkling Ale (known locally as lunatic soup) from South Australia.Aficionados of real ale should seek out one of the pub breweries throughout Australia. Beer in Australia is ordered by the glass size or by the brand name.

Spirits: Australian distillers produce fine dark and white rums from Queenslands sugar cane plantations. The more notable labels are Bundaberg from the town of the same name and Beenleigh.Australia’s grape vintage is also the basis of good value domestic brandies .Popular labels include St Agnes and Hardy’s.

The one thing to remember is that it is okay to enjoy yourself but you must not drive after drinking EVER! Please designate someone as the driver for the evening or hire a car service. It’s the only way to keep a happy and fun evening safe as well.
